Inspired by Malcolm X and his pivotal April 1964 speech, "The Ballot or the Bullet."
"The whites are so evenly divided that every time they vote, the race is so close they have to go back and count the votes all over again. Which means that any bloc, any minority that has a bloc of votes that stick together, is in a strategic position. Either way you go, that's who gets it," said Malcolm.
As Malcolm stressed in his speech, the Black voting bloc is crucial. While Black voters largely railed against Trump's campaign of bigotry, Black voter turnout dropped in the 2016 presidential election from the two elections prior. Yet it was the Black vote that was largely responsible for the "blue wave" in the 2018 midterm elections that saw an influx of Democratic House candidates, with 90% of Black voters supporting the party, according to the Pew Research Center.
If you choose to engage in the electoral process, be sure that your vote is for a candidate or issue that directly improves the lives of black people. That's the new/old motto.
